1% Pakistanis (around 1.2 million adults) report experiencing sexual harassment in the past year

Islamabad, 07 February, 2020

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, 1% Pakistanis (around 1.2 million adults) report experiencing sexual harassment in the past year.

Considering Pakistan’s adult population of around 120 million, this percentage adds to nearly 1.2 million adults that report facing sexual harassment.

A representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Have you experienced any kind of sexual harassment in the past year?” In response, 1% said yes, 95% said no and 4% did not know/did not respond.

Note: Considering the sensitivity of the topic and stigma surrounding it in Pakistan, the reported figure is likely to be much lower than the actual number of people who have experienced sexual harassment.
