According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, Following a very consistent trend since 2008, 3/4th Pakistanis favour celebrating Eid according to local sighting of moon.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Some people say that Eid should be celebrated along with Saudia Arabia, whereas others think countries should individually celebrate Eid according to the moon sighting in their area. What is your opinion?” In response to this question, 74% said Eid should be celebrated according to local sighting of moon, 26% said it should be celebrated with Saudia Arabia.

Trend Analysis:

In response to this question in 2008, 60% said Eid should be celebrated according to local sighting of moon, 27% said it should be celebrated with Saudia Arabia. 13% did not know or wish to respond.

In 2012, 83% said Eid should be celebrated according to local sighting of moon, 15% said it should be celebrated with Saudia Arabia. 2% did not know or wish to respond.

According to public opinion, the preference among Pakistanis to celebrate Eid according to local sighting of moon has increased by 14% over the past 9 years.
