Nearly 3 in 10 (27%) Pakistanis say they use glasses for their eyesight

Islamabad, 12 December, 2019

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, 27% Pakistanis say they use glasses for their eyesight.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Do you agree with the following statement: ‘I use glasses for my eyesight’?” In response, 27% agreed, 66% said they do not use glasses for their eyesight and 7% said they did not know/did not wish to respond.

Urban-Rural Divide: Usage of glasses for eyesight in urban areas is higher than in rural areas

Out of the respondents that belonged to rural Pakistan, 25% said they use glasses for their eyesight while a much higher 67% disagreed. Amongst respondents from urban areas, a relatively higher 33% said they use glasses while 64% disagreed.

Age Breakdown: Higher use of glasses for eyesight amongst older respondents as compared to those under 50 years of age

Out of the total respondents that were under 30 years of age, 20% agreed to using glasses for vision issues, 33% Pakistanis aged between 30 and 50 claimed to use glasses and higher 45% of the respondents aged over 50 said that they use glasses for their eyesight.
