Only 2 in 5 (39%) Pakistanis claim to use the internet
According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, only 39% Pakistanis claim to use the internet.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Do you agree with the following statement: ‘I use the internet’?”In response, 39% agreed while 53% claimed they do not use the internet. 8% did not know/did not wish to respond.
Urban/Rural Divide: The internet use in urban areas is 10% higher than in rural areas
Out of the respondents that belonged to rural Pakistan, 36% said they use the internet while a much higher 55% disagreed. Only 9% said they did not know or did not wish to respond. Amongst respondents from urban areas, 46% said they use the internet while a similar 50% disagreed. Only 4% said they did not know or did not wish to respond.
Age Breakdown: Millennials more likely to use the internet than Generation X and Boomers
Out of the total respondents that were under 30 years of age, 50% agreed to using the internet, 33% Pakistanis aged between 30 and 50 claimed to use the internet and only 10% of the respondents aged over 50 said that they use the internet.
Gender Breakdown: Asymmetrical usage of the internet amongst males versus females
Out of the total respondents, 48% of the males asked seemed to agree with using the internet while out of the total female respondents, only 27% claim that they use the internet.
