According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority (58%) consider Pakistani Cricket Team as favorites for T20 World Cup this year. However, this view had been expressed prior to the team’s humiliating defeat by India last Sunday.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “In your opinion, which team has the most chances of winning the T20 world cup this month?” Responding to this, 58% believe Pakistani team will be the champions of the T-20 series, 5% believe Australia will hold the trophy, 5% believe West Indies would win, another 5% cited Sri Lanka. 14% of respondents mentioned other countries as their favorites. The remaining 13% were unsure.  

Question: “In your opinion, which team has the most chances of winning the T20 world cup this month?”

Comparative data shows that the faith in Pakistan Cricket Team has risen considerably than a year ago when 45% believed that Pakistan could win T20 World Cup.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2669 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during September 16, 2012 – September 22, 2012. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
